The workshop on "Career Development and Major Choices in the Post-Pandemic Period", organized in partnership with the Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR) and Azerbaijan State Employment Agency (DMA), started with the opening speeches of Azerbaijan State Employment Agency Chairman Mustafa Abbasbeyli and our General Manager Oğuz Kağan Güldoğan.
The impact of COVID-19 on career development, new career development options in line with the changing skill needs after the pandemic, and the changing preferences of job seekers were discussed in the online workshop organized under the umbrella of the World Association of Public Employment Agencies (WAPES).
Our General Manager Güldoğan Talked About the Importance of Protecting Employment
In his opening speech, our General Manager Güldoğan stated that unemployment is one of the most challenging problems for states after the field of health, together with the global problems experienced during the pandemic period; “The increasing importance of policies regarding the protection and increase of employment has increased the strategic importance of public employment institutions. In this area, countries that take measures quickly and implement the measures they take effectively will get through these difficult times with the least loss. Active and passive labor market measures such as short-time working, unemployment benefits, on-the-job training and career guidance are becoming more important.
Pointing out that the world has been struggling with the COVID-19 epidemic for nearly two years, Abbasbeyli said, “The adverse pandemic conditions created by COVID-19 have moved the labor market to a completely different format and shaped it in the direction of remote and online work. "This has become a huge challenge for all of us," he said.
Presentation on Career Guidance and Counseling Services Made by Our Institution
In the continuation of the workshop, in the presentations made by François Dumora, a representative of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and Employment Specialist in the field of career counseling, and Toghrul Alakbarov, Head of Career Guidance Department at DMA, in addition to global approaches to career counseling, remote access opportunities with the technological transformations that public employment institutions are going through. New service delivery models and changing approaches and behavior patterns of people were discussed.
Our country's experiences in career guidance and consultancy services and the innovative works of our Institution in this field were shared with the participating countries in a comprehensive presentation by Ramazan Beğboğa, our Employment Specialist working in our Department of Job and Vocational Counseling. After the presentations, the workshop was completed with the discussion section in which the questions of the participants were answered and experiences related to other countries were shared.
